Red Dress Productions has had the opportunity to make art with more than
600 people in the St James Town and Cabbagetown neighbourhoods since the start
of the Promise in the Park
neighbourhood in spring 2014. We’ve brought art workshops to E Fry Toronto,
Dixon Hall, 55+ Group, St James Town Community Corner, Diane Frankling Co-op,
Maggie's, Sherbourne Health Centre, Winchester Public School, and City of
Toronto parks, and we’ve unveiled 4 new visual public art projects including: Hatch – a 14' x 8' mosaic public artwork
that engaged 400+ staff and students at Winchester Public School – Birds
of a Feather – a suite of 9 mosaics created with a group of Ernescliffe
Non-Profit Housing Co-op members and staff – Cornerstone – a large pebble mosaic in Winchester Square Park– and Flightpath – a 6-week mosaic
installation with 50+ components created with many community members.
As we move
in to the third year of this exciting project, we’re focusing our efforts on
more performance-related art practices as part of script development that will
lead to an outdoor community performance in spring 2017. We welcome returning
and new participants to join any or all of these new arts discovery and
learning workshops:
· The Write Stuff – a 14-week creative writing workshop with Anna Camilleri
· Sing Song – a 6-week community choir with Tristan R. Whiston and guest artists
· Stitch – a 4-week hand-stitching and fabric/costume workshop with Alana McLeod
·
Flight -- a 4-week
creative movement workshop with Ill NANA DiverseCity Dance Company
·
Tall Tales – a 3-week theatre
workshop with Tristan R. Whiston and Trisha Lamie
·
Saturday Mystery
Make and Skillshare – 4 workshops focused on experimenting with materials and
methods with artists including Heidi Cho, Shira Spector, and Lee Hicks.
The workshops are
drop-in (and we request pre-registration if possible to help us to better plan)
– they’re free and materials will be provided – and the workshops are taking
place at St James Town Community Corner, except for Flight that will be hosted by Hugh Garner Housing Co-op. We look
forward to making art with you! More workshops will be announced in the coming months. If you have questions about any of the
workshops or you’d like to talk about your access needs, please contact us.
Best wishes for 2016!
