Red Dress Productions welcome
Glen Andersen for an Exploration of
Community Engagement
Public Art & Place
On Friday October 9 at 6:30 pm,
Glen Andersen will give a free public
lecture on
The Spirit of Place, a 45-minute
presentation exploring his philosophy of urban aesthetics. Glen explores the
visibility of human-scale and handmade environments that can counteract generic
contemporary urban terrains.
Hailing from Vancouver, Glen is visiting Toronto as
guest artist with Red Dress Productions, Mabelle Arts, and Jumblies Theatre, and
brings his considerable experience with community-engaged public and
place-based art, specifically in creating permanent mosaic and sculptural work
for civic plazas, sidewalks, and parks. His presentation is timely given the
Toronto Arts Council recently announced Arts in the Parks Program, and Toronto’s 5-year parks plan unanimously passed by City Council in 2013.
The presentation, to be held at Jumblies
Theatre’s Ground Floor Studio (132 Fort York Blvd.,
north of Lakeshore and east of Bathurst) on Friday October 9 at 6:30 pm, will be
followed by an open-format discussion. Light refreshments provided.
Donations appreciated. Everyone is welcome.
